Looking for a new job for the new year? The library will be hiring a part-time Administrative Assistant in January. Job posting is Dec 3 – Jan 3.
We are looking for a competent, computer savvy person (preferably with prior administrative skills) to assist the Library Director on tasks large and small as well as function in library clerk capacities. Approx.14 hours/week, with potential for more hours if flexible.

The Otsego District Library serves 14,230 residents with a budget of $518,000 and a staff of fifteen. In 2009, a beautiful new 18,000 square foot, LEED-Silver Level building opened for service to the community. A dedicated library millage voted in perpetuity provides 75% of the library’s operating revenue. The library has a staff known for its commitment to outstanding customer service and a supportive board that is responsive to the community. Otsego is located in beautiful southwest Michigan, fifteen miles north of Kalamazoo, thirty miles south of Grand Rapids, and only forty minutes from Lake Michigan. The Otsego area offers affordable living, excellent schools, convenient shopping, and an outstanding quality of life.

Something Curious is Coming to ODL!!!

Our Wonderland Supplies Wishlist is now available at the library. If you have anything on the list and would like to donate it to the library to help make Wonderland really wonderful this winter, bring it in anytime in the next couple months! Setup for the program begins in early December.(See the attached list for details on donations and what we need.)

Thanks for considering helping out with our 2019 Early Literacy Center Fundraiser! All proceeds go towards the Rise and Shine Early Literacy Center. Business Sponsor letters have been sent out. Let us know if your business might be interested in sponsoring this awesome event, if you have not gotten a request letter in the past. We would love for you to be a part of WONDERLAND!

Last year we had some really awesome Jumanji donations that helped make the event fantastic! The community of Otsego rocks! Thanks for considering helping out your library!

Friday, December 7 at 4 PM

Don we now our PLAID apparel! Fa la la la la and all that other stuff…

Join us for a festive holiday party for just teens and tweens. We will play games, eat snacks, drink hot cocoa, and earn prizes! Bring an inexpensive, wrapped gift for the white elephant gift exchange. Please let a staff member know if you plan to attend the event but are unable to bring a gift.

BIG Fall Book Sale Results

The results are in at the library! The amazing volunteers from the Friends of the Library were able to raise $1183 at the Fall Book Sale!

All of the proceeds from the large books sales (spring and fall) and Twice Told Tales: Friends of the Library Book Store come back to the library and assist in various aspects of the library including programming, events, summer reading, and more.

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all of the Friends of the Library Volunteers for helping make this book sale so successful. Another big thank you goes out to the Otsego High School Student Volunteers. The library would also like to thank our community and its visitors for donating books for purchase at these sales. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff Gala

Allegan County and the Great War

Presented by Scott Kuykendall of the Allegan Historical Society
Thursday, November 1 at 7 PM

What was life like in Allegan County over 100 years ago during World War I? Hear about local Allegan County men who left the farm and fought in several areas of Europe during World War I, and what the citizens of Allegan County faced here at home as well. Allegan County artifacts from the Great War era will also be on display. Scott Kuykendall’s last program at the library, “The Scandalous History of Allegan County,” was a huge hit and we look forward to this program to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of WWI.

Donut Dolly

An American Red Cross Girl’s War in Vietnam Presented by Joann Puffer Kotcher
Thursday, October 4 at 7 PM

Joann Puffer Kotcher, one of the first women allowed in a combat zone, will discuss the riveting story of her service as an American Red Cross Donut Dolly. These brave young women set up recreation centers and brought books, snacks and a welcome reminder of home to soldiers in the field.

Kotcher and other Donut Dollies, while participating in highly dangerous missions, were assigned to combat support duty and often found themselves in fox holes nose to nose with the enemy. She spent a year in Vietnam during the height of the war and was awarded the Civilian Service Citation for merit and bravery upon her return.

Donuts will be provided for attendees by Sweetwater’s Donut Mill in Plainwell.
