Irene Galloway Endowment Fund

The Otsego District Library Irene Galloway Fund was established in November 1999 in honor of longtime library user, supporter and board member Irene Galloway. A lifelong resident of the Otsego area, Irene and her family truly recognized the value of the public library within the Otsego community. Her public service for the library began in 1974 as an appointed board representative from Otsego Township. She retired from her board position in October 1999, after having served the library for more than 25 years.

The library honored Irene with the establishment of the endowment fund in her name in November 1999 at a special board meeting and the Otsego Friends of the Library made a special gift to initiate the fund. Her smile and warm appreciation for the honor let everyone know that evening of her satisfaction in receiving it. Irene sadly and suddenly passed away in January 2000. The library is proud of Irene’s longtime service and her dedication to the people of this community.

Annual proceeds from the endowment fund will eventually be used to support children’s and adult programs and events at the library. Please consider giving to the endowment in honor of all those who have ever had a love for their library and for the good that it can do. Your contribution is tax deductible and may also qualify for the Michigan Income Tax Credit.

Note: These donations are intended for the Irene Galloway Endowment Fund. To donate directly to the library please review Memorial and Honorary Gifts and Books and Materials below.

Memorial & Honorary Gifts

The library gladly accepts donations in honor or in memory of family, friends, organizations, or events. The gifts can be requested to be applied to programs, books, audio-video materials, or equipment. If applied to library materials such as books, a bookplate noting both the honoree and the donor is tastefully applied to the front piece of the item, and a letter is sent to the family/person being honored. Please call the library at (269) 694-9690 for more information on memorial and honorary gifts.

Books & Materials

The library appreciates gifts of new, high quality, or useful book or audio-visual materials. However, there may be times when material gifts cannot be accepted due to the item already existing in the library, the condition of the item, or expected usefulness of the item. The library encourages donors to give monetary gifts rather than material gifts since the library can often purchase materials at a price lower than retail rates. The library does accept used materials on behalf of the Friends of the Library’s Bookstore. The library reserves the right to not accept material gifts, and when possible will request permission from the donor to direct materials to the Friends’ Bookstore.
