Apollo 11 Mission Webcast

Join NASA for a Live Webcast Event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission.

This webcast, brought to you by the American Museum of Natural History, will feature a guided recreation of the Apollo 11 voyage – the space-flight that landed the first two astronauts on the Moon. This webcast will stream live in the library’s program room.

Summer Early Literacy Activities

Tiny Tots
June 17 – July 15
For Ages 0 – 1 at 10 AM

Our littlest stars will shine as they sing, read, and play with other space friends.

Starrytime Stories and Songs
June 19 – July 17
Wednesdays at 10 AM
For Ages 0-5
Launch into outer space with space stories, songs, activities, and space crafts!

A Universe of Stories: 2019 Summer Reading Program for Pre-Readers
Saturday, June 15 – Saturday, July 20
All children can participate in the summer reading program, starting from birth! Register at the library by Monday, July 1. There are so many Pre- Reader Literacy Activities your child can do before they start reading. If you have a Pre-Reader the program is the same, but you can supplement a literacy activity! Here are some great examples: read books, sing songs, do rhymes, sensory play, tell stories, learn new words, play together, make sounds, draw pictures. More details about the Summer Reading Program can be found in our Library Newsletter.

Rise & Shine Early Literacy Centers
Open During Library Hours
The library strives to enrich young minds by encouraging early literacy. In doing this we have created an amazing and FREE literacy center with changing themes. The theme for Summer 2019 is SPACE! This facility is available for access any time during library hours; direct parental supervision is required.

Space Outdoor Play Area
Open During Library Hours
Spend some time learning and playing in our outdoor play area! The theme for Summer 2019 is SPACE! Stop by during library hours to play in a rocket tent, build your own rocket, and discover space items in moon sand! The outdoor play area is available Memorial Day through Labor Day during library hours.

 

Stop by the library to learn and play with your preschool aged child today!

A Universe of Stories – Children’s Summer Reading Program

Saturday, June 15 – Saturday, July 20

Get ready to blast off for an exciting exploration of space this summer! This space adventure begins on Saturday, June 15 with our spacetacular kickoff event and continues through Saturday, July 20.

  • Register at the library by Monday, July 1. It’s super easy!
  • Set your own reading goal (read between 20-35 days) and keep track on your reading log.
  • WIN fun prizes, play games, and attend awesome programs when you visit the library!
  • Turn in your finished reading log by Saturday, July 20 for a chance to WIN one of our grand prizes PLUS receive a finisher bag filled with prizes and certificates for FREE items.

Launch into outer space with reading and fun this summer at the library!

OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD GRAND PRIZES
GRAND PRIZE – A TRIP TO ADLER PLANETARIUM IN CHICAGO
ALL children and teens will have a chance to win this spacetastic grand prize, which includes tickets to the Planetarium for a family of four, a one-night stay at a nearby hotel, and a $50 gas card.

If you win the grand prize, you will be ineligible to win one of the other prizes listed below. In addition to the grand prize, children will be able to choose one of the following prizes they hope to win:

  1. Four tickets to ALLEGAN EVENT: Sky Trail Ropes Course with Sky Rail™ Zip Lines. (Height restrictions: 48” or 42” with adult; max 6’5”)
  2. Four tickets to AIR ZOO (donated by Air Zoo)
