Lyrics on the Lawn – The Gratitude Steel Band

Thursdays in August at 7 PM

Visit the library FIVE Thursday evenings in August for an outdoor concert on the lawn. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and your family and friends to enjoy some great FREE entertainment.  Popcorn will be served by the Friends of the Library and bottled water will be available for $1. This popular series is in its seventh year and has an outstanding lineup once again – seven years of awesome local bands with no repeats!

If you enjoyed the Main Street Dueling Pianos at Lyrics on the Lawn last summer, come back for Joe Laureano’s full cover band, “Great Scott.” Great Scott performs the greatest songs from the 1950’s to the new hits of today. Joe will come with a five piece band. This evening is guaranteed to have you laughing, tapping your toes, and dancing along!

The Gratitude Steel Band
Thursday, August 1
Enjoy a relaxing evening with the soothing tunes of the islands presented by the Russell family. International performers, Gratitude Steel Drum Band, bring good vibes, maintain respect for Afro Cuban innovative rhythms, and relieve stress through music. Gratitude Steel Drums perform Calypso, Reggae, Hawaiian, Gospelypso, Jazz, African, Salsa, Latin, and popular American dance tunes.

Celeste Allison Band

The Celeste Allison trio is a collective group that features all genres of music. With Adam Main on guitar, Anders Dahlberg on bass and Celeste Allison on guitar and vocals, the trio is influenced mainly by jazz and hints of rock and blues that will leave you wanting more!

Guitar playing, ukulele strumming, whistling Michigan songstress performing with a myriad of players and genres, Megan has been dubbed “The First Lady of Kalamazoo.” Megan brings a mix of
Torch, Swing, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Roots, and Blues to the stage. Megan Dooley’s performances are a real treat you won’t want to miss!

AnDro
Thursday, August 29
Celtic-based, globally-infused, world-beat music, AnDro is an ensemble of eclectic instrumentalists who speak from the heart with uncommon synergy. You’ll hear traditional Irish melodies, medieval French songs, Breton dance tunes, Scandinavian refrains, Appalachian influences, Arabic rhythms, and African grooves all performed with joy and freshness.

Library Board Meeting – PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE

The Library Board of Trustees meets on a monthly basis to discuss library business and housekeeping. Meetings are open to the public and include a period of time for patrons to discuss comments and concerns.

Please note that the JULY Board Meeting will take place on THURSDAY, JULY 18 AT 4:30 PM.

Due to Lyrics on the Lawn, the regular Otsego District Library Board Meeting and annual budget hearing will be held on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21 AT 5:30 PM. There will be no board meeting on August 15.

(These Meetings usually take place on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM.)

The Otsego District Library serves 14,230 residents with a budget of $518,000 and a staff of fifteen. In 2009, a beautiful new 18,000 square foot, LEED-Silver Level building opened for service to the community. A dedicated library millage voted in perpetuity provides 75% of the library’s operating revenue. The library has a staff known for its commitment to outstanding customer service and a supportive board that is responsive to the community. Otsego is located in beautiful southwest Michigan, fifteen miles north of Kalamazoo, thirty miles south of Grand Rapids, and only forty minutes from Lake Michigan. The Otsego area offers affordable living, excellent schools, convenient shopping, and an outstanding quality of life.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who purchased books in the library for our 2019 Scholastic Book Fair! Your purchases earned the library $1,861.25 in free Scholastic books for the library! That will help us add many great new titles to our children’s and teen collections!
