NEW Holds Self-Pickup Shelf

March 15, 2019 | See all Announcements

The Otsego District Library now has a holds self-pickup shelf!

This is where you will locate your holds of ODL items. Interlibrary loan will still be at the circulation desk. Look for the first 4 letters of your last name and the last 4 digits of your library card. You can grab your items and take them to the self checkout and be on your way without having to wait in line for staff to find them! The holds pickup shelf is by our new nonfiction shelf, right by the entrance.

The library has one more important announcement regarding holds:

Starting Monday, April 15, ALL Holds Notifications will transition to EMAIL notices only. Due to changes with our card catalog, we will no longer be calling on holds for interlibrary loan or regular holds from ODL.

** Please add an email to your library account if you are currently getting phone calls. **

To accommodate this change, the library will extend the holds shelf to 7 day pickup time.

If you absolutely can not add an email address, here are some options:

  1. Consider adding a trusted family member’s email address to your account who can let you know when your items are in. Or consider setting up an email account for your library holds notices. The library staff offer 1-on-1 computer sessions and would be happy to help you set up a free Gmail account.
  2. Check your account online to see if your items are in (any staff can show you how to do this.)
  3. Become a regular weekly visitor to the library and just check when you come to see if your item is in. Your items will wait 7 days for you to pick them up. Many of the items that go on the hold shelf are for people we see once a week already.
  4. Call the library to ask. (The first three options are preferred, but if none of these are possible, you can always call us to see if your item is available.)

Thank you!

Irene Miller, a Holocaust survivor, author, speaker, and educator will take you on a survival journey about which little has been written or shared.

Come along Miller’s journey…
You will sleep in the winter under an open sky in no man’s land; you will freeze in a Siberian labor camp where the bears come to your door front. In Uzbekistan, you will live on boiled grass or broiled onions, and shiver with malaria. You will spend years in orphanages.

After hearing this you will wonder how a child with this background grows up to become a positive, creative, accomplished woman who loves to share her story and her joy of living. Irene’s book, Into No Man’s Land, will be available for purchase and signing after the program.
