Thursdays in August at 7 PM

Visit the library FIVE Thursday evenings in August for an outdoor concert on the lawn. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and your family and friends to enjoy some great FREE entertainment.  Popcorn will be served by the Friends of the Library and bottled water will be available for $1. This popular series is in its seventh year and has an outstanding lineup once again – seven years of awesome local bands with no repeats!

Torch, Swing, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Roots, and Blues to the stage. Megan Dooley’s performances are a real treat you won’t want to miss!

Celtic-based, globally-infused, world-beat music, AnDro is an ensemble of eclectic instrumentalists who speak from the heart with uncommon synergy. You’ll hear traditional Irish melodies, medieval French songs, Breton dance tunes, Scandinavian refrains, Appalachian influences, Arabic rhythms, and African grooves all performed with joy and freshness.

The Otsego District Library serves 14,230 residents with a budget of $518,000 and a staff of fifteen. In 2009, a beautiful new 18,000 square foot, LEED-Silver Level building opened for service to the community. A dedicated library millage voted in perpetuity provides 75% of the library’s operating revenue. The library has a staff known for its commitment to outstanding customer service and a supportive board that is responsive to the community. Otsego is located in beautiful southwest Michigan, fifteen miles north of Kalamazoo, thirty miles south of Grand Rapids, and only forty minutes from Lake Michigan. Join NASA for a Live Webcast Event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission.

This webcast, brought to you by the American Museum of Natural History, will feature a guided recreation of the Apollo 11 voyage – the space-flight that landed the first two astronauts on the Moon. This webcast will stream live in the library’s program room.

A supernatural, intergalactical, magical finale show! FUN is the final frontier as astronauts achieve “Jedi status” in the art of magic. All young Jedi’s will leave with their own magic trick! What a great way to land back on earth from our space voyage! Solar sundaes will be served to celebrate the end of the SPACETACULAR SUMMER READING PROGRAM!

A Universe of Stories: 2019 Summer Reading Program for Pre-Readers
Saturday, June 15 – Saturday, July 20
All children can participate in the summer reading program, starting from birth! Register at the library by Monday, July 1. There are so many Pre- Reader Literacy Activities your child can do before they start reading. If you have a Pre-Reader the program is the same, but you can supplement a literacy activity! Here are some great examples: read books, sing songs, do rhymes, sensory play, tell stories, learn new words, play together, make sounds, draw pictures. Rise & Shine Early Literacy Centers
Open During Library Hours
The library strives to enrich young minds by encouraging early literacy. In doing this we have created an amazing and FREE literacy center with changing themes. The theme for Summer 2019 is SPACE! This facility is available for access any time during library hours; direct parental supervision is required.

Space Outdoor Play Area
Open During Library Hours
Spend some time learning and playing in our outdoor play area! The theme for Summer 2019 is SPACE! Stop by during library hours to play in a rocket tent, build your own rocket, and discover space items in moon sand! The outdoor play area is available Memorial Day through Labor Day during library hours.
