Now Accepting Landscaping Bids

The Otsego District Library is Now Accepting Landscaping Bids.

Spring/Summer/Fall 2018 Fertilization and Weed Control

2018 Project: Landscaping Refresh – clean up and refresh library garden beds: pull overgrown items, fix edging, weed, edge, mulch, rocks, add new plants where necessary.

Please bid these projects separately. The library is not interested in bids on mowing the lawn.

End-date for accepting bids is February 28, 2018.

AARP Tax Aide

AARP Volunteers offer this FREE service to patrons in the surrounding community. Registration for appointments begins Monday, January 15 at 9 AM. Appointments will take place on Thursdays from February 1 – April 12.  Appointment times vary through the morning and afternoon.

All appointments must be made in advance by calling the library at 269-694-9690.  Space is limited. Please call the library if you are unable to make your appointment or have any scheduling changes.

If you are looking to make an appointment and cannot schedule for your desired date you may call “211” for information regarding tax aide and assistance. Click HERE to access the Michigan 211 webpage.

About AARP Foundation Tax-Aide

Since 1968, volunteer-based program has helped nearly 50 million low to moderate-income taxpayers. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, an AARP Foundation program, helps low- to moderate-income taxpayers have more discretionary income for everyday essentials, such as food and housing, by assisting with tax services and ensuring they receive applicable tax credits and deductions. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is available free to taxpayers with low and moderate income, with special attention to those 50 and older. Through a cadre of trained volunteers, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has helped low- to moderate-income individuals for more than 40 years in every state and the District of Columbia. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is offered in cooperation with the IRS.

Michigan 2-1-1 is a free, confidential service that connects you with local community-based organizations across the state offering thousands of different programs and services for people seeking answers. Last year more than half a million Michigan residents turned to 2-1-1 for health and human service information and referrals and the numbers continue to grow. Even if there isn’t a program to meet your particular need m 2-1-1’s professional and certified staff can help you figure out your options and how to move forward.

The Otsego District Library serves 14,230 residents with a budget of $518,000 and a staff of fifteen. In 2009, a beautiful new 18,000 square foot, LEED-Silver Level building opened for service to the community. A dedicated library millage voted in perpetuity provides 75% of the library’s operating revenue. The library has a staff known for its commitment to outstanding customer service and a supportive board that is responsive to the community. Otsego is located in beautiful southwest Michigan, fifteen miles north of Kalamazoo, thirty miles south of Grand Rapids, and only forty minutes from Lake Michigan. The Otsego area offers affordable living, excellent schools, convenient shopping, and an outstanding quality of life.

Jumanji @ ODL!

It’s a jungle in the Otsego District Library! A life-size Jumanji game has come to life in the large program room. Families will trek through the jungle in this interactive game, but adventurers beware–spine-tingling surprises and jungle creatures are lurking around every turn! This is “a game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind.” Jumanji is open during all library hours December 26 through January 18. Cost to play is $1.00 per person or a maximum of $5.00 per family (children 2 and under are free). Proceeds from this event will go toward the purchase of new toys and literacy-based activities in the Rise & Shine Early Literacy Center.

Nelson’s Wildlife Safari
Saturday, January 20 at 10 AM
To celebrate the finale of Jumanji, the library is excited to bring you this great animal program! Meet Al the Alligator, Elsa the Siberian Lynx, Gryffindor the Eagle Owl plus other jungle animals. Nelson’s Wildlife Safari will offer safe, fun, and positive interactions at this wildlife experience.

Tablet Checkout

Friends of the Library – BIG Fall Book Sale Results!

The results are in at the library! The amazing volunteers from the Friends of the Library were able to raise $1414 at the Fall Book Sale!

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all of the volunteers for helping make this book sale so successful. All of the proceeds from the large books sales (spring and fall) and Twice Told Tales: Friends of the Library Book Store come back to the library and assist in various aspects of the library including programming, events, summer reading, and more.

The library would also like to thank our community and its visitors for donating books for purchase at these sales. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
