Creative Writing Club

Do you LOVE to write? Let’s write together and share short stories, original writing pieces, and ideas. We welcome all writing styles – poetry, memoir, non-fiction, fiction, and prose.

Art Hub: Teen/Tween Craft Club

Create beautiful and fun pieces of art at this art club! Join us for drawing, painting, crafting, and more! These crafts are more advanced for teens and tweens.

Sweet and Salty Books: Teen/Tween Book Club
4th Thursdays at 4 PM
September 26 & October 24
Let’s get together and discuss what we are reading over snacks! Not everyone likes to read the same books, so we let you choose the book you want to read and share. Need a few new book suggestions? Ask a staff member about new and popular book titles in the juvenile and young adult sections!

Ghostly Gala Halloween Party
After-Hours Event

Beware and attend if you dare! You’re sure to have a hauntingly good time with pizza, refreshments, games, hide-and-seek in the dark, costume contest, and of course… CANDY! This special after-hours ghostly gala is just for teens and tweens – all are welcome – no registration necessary.

Ugly Sweater & Sock Party
Friday, December 6 at 4 PM
Wear your best ugly holiday sweater and socks to celebrate the holiday season! Enjoy cookie decorating, treats, and all things jolly! Bring a small inexpensive gift for the white elephant gift exchange – if you cannot provide a gift, please let us know and we will make sure you can participate.

Tiny Pumpkin Art
Adult • High School • Middle School • 3rd – 5th Grade • Kindergarten – 2nd Grade • Preschool
Tiny Canvas Pickup: September 3 – October 31
Canvas Dropoff : October 1 – 31
Voting: November
Create pumpkin themed art on a tiny canvas. Choose your preferred medium to design your Tiny Pumpkin Art piece – paint, mixed media, clay, sculpture, etc. There will be six age categories (listed above) and two prize categories (Best in Show and Most Creative). Library patrons and artists will vote for their favorite art pieces and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each age group and category.

Thursday, September 19 at 6:30 PM

Join Swordsmanship Museum and Academy historian Jerry Berg as he leads us through the history of the use of swords, bayonets, cutlasses, sabers, pikes, and more as they were used in the American Civil War. He will help uncover the hidden history of the actual military use of these weapons of war by utilizing artifacts and replicas from the museum’s collection.

Out of Favor Boys is one of Southwest Michigan’s premier contemporary blues bands. They’ve been the house band at two of Kalamazoo’s longest-lasting Thursday Blues Jams at Wonderful’s Funky Basement and The 411 Club. The band has had the opportunity to play with some national blues musicians like Tab Benoit, Watermelon Slim and Robert Bradley.

If you enjoy the Main Street Dueling Pianos, come back for Joe Laureano’s full cover band, “Great Scott.” Great Scott performs the greatest songs from the 1950’s to the new hits of today. Cirque Amongus Kickoff Event

Join the adventures of the circus at this kick-off event!
There will be two Cirque Amongus Shows – one at 10 AM and another at 11 AM. These shows have a combination of comedy, circus skills and audience participation that will amaze and delight you.

Test your own circus skills with games and activities while enjoying some yummy snacks. Adventure awaits you at every station! The event will be outdoors, weather permitting.

ADVENTURE HIKE
Pick up a map at the library to go on an Adventure Hike through downtown Otsego in the month of July. Find all of the animals, do the activities, and bring your completed map back to the library for a special prize!

Get ready for some summer fun at the Otsego District Library! Read a minimum of SIX books and complete TWELVE Adventure Pack Reading Challenges (challenges are listed on the bottom right) to enter the Adventurous Grand Prize drawings.

Finishers are also eligible for the Adventurous Grand Prize Picks. Once you’ve reached your reading goal, you can bring in your finisher slips to receive a Finisher Prize Bag and pick out a free book.  Finisher Prize Bags may be picked up at the circulation desk beginning Monday, July 8. Enter for a chance to win one of the ADVENTUROUS Grand PrizeS and ADVENTUROUS grand prize picks!
