Deer Hunting: New and Unusual Buck Tactics

Fred is well known for developing his own unique and innovative deer hunting tactics that he will share in this program. Participants will learn how to:

  • Create long lasting bedding areas based on trail camera time frames.
  • Profile certain bucks.
  • Use oak trees to produce maximum hunter success.
  • Condition mature bucks into using certain trails.
  • Develop a new tactic using “cluster scrapes” to force nocturnal or pressured bucks into making a mistake.
  • Use never before seen techniques of attractant scent.
  • Use “Mock Scrapes”, the deadliest tactic of all, as a form of communication between deer throughout the year. See how we can virtually ask a buck a series of questions, and see how the bucks are forced to respond.

Deer hunters, both bow and gun, will not want to miss this highly acclaimed speaker!

Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses

What is it about lighthouses that attract ghostly spirits? Maybe it’s simply a passion that will not go away. Lighthouse keepers were known to be extremely dedicated to their profession and it seems that many were never able to give it up — even after death.

More than 30 lighthouses in Michigan are rumored to be haunted. From the smell of cigar smoke at Seul Choix Point Light, to the mysterious housekeeping at White River Light Station, and the antics at Waugoshance Shoal, these stories will entertain all ages. This popular program is coming from the pages of Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses — a book written by Dianna Stampfler.

After Hours Halloween Party

Something is brewing… a wicked good time just for teens and tweens!

All Hallows’ Eve is almost upon us, so hop on your broomstick and fly on over to the library for an after-hours Halloween party! Our bewitching evening of fun will consist of pizza, refreshments, games, hide-and-seek in the dark, costume contest, and of course… CANDY!

All teens and tweens are welcome – no registration necessary.

 

NOTE: This is an after hours party – the library closes at 6 PM. The party is intended for middle school and high school aged teens/tweens and is fully supervised. 

Honey Bee Basics

By the time a person becomes an adult they normally know a little something about honeybees. They know they are good for the planet as a pollinator insect and they sting. They may even know  that honeybees are in peril due to a host of issues.

Are you interested in knowing more about starting your own hive, what causes colony collapse, what goes on inside a beehive, or what you can do to save the bees? Get the answers to these questions and so much more from a beekeeper from the Kalamazoo Bee Club. You don’t want to miss it!

An afternoon class will open if these classes fill.

Create a beautiful wooden sign for your home, the holidays, or as a gift. Cost is $20 and pre-registration is required (non-refundable). You will be able to choose from three different patterns, learn to make a bow to add to your sign, and add some embellishments if desired. Cost of the class covers the instruction, your finished wooden art, and refreshments. These classes are for adults only unless special permission is given.

Calabogie Road – Bluegrass

Calabogie Road is a true West Michigan favorite. As veterans of Michigan’s Bluegrass scene, going back to 1983 and earlier, the members of Calabogie Road truly enjoy every minute onstage and there is always something for everybody at their concerts. Hot pickin’ from Mark’s mandolin and Ian’s banjo, exciting fiddling from Marten, the very best rhythm guitar around from Ruth, and a solid bass line from John make for some exciting shows! Throw in their great harmonies and humor and what have you
got? THE CALABOGIE ROAD experience!

Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish – Rock N’ Roll, Blues, Swing

“Jesse Ray and The Carolina Catfish are a brilliant Americana rock duo with sounds that spill energy into your ears!” Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish is a 2015 Jammie award winning Rock-N-Roll band. Founded in the fall of 2013. The band is known for their Elvis-style vocals, fantastic guitar riffs, splitting harmonica, and danceable drumming. Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish are now performing their hypnotic rock music across the United States.

 

 

Nicholas James Trio – Americana Rock

Singer-songwriter Nicholas James Thomasma is a Grand Rapids native and a Michigander to the core. His albums chronicle the singers travels, usually in his bright orange VW Bus as he collects stories and musical influences along the way. With songs written from experiences as far and different as working on a farm in California to a late night conversation with a bartender in Madrid, Spain, the album spans the musical globe from Folk to Rock to Reggae. With tales about the open road, the temperate midwest weather, love, loss and surviving on the kindness of strangers, this is the music you want at your backyard BBQ or around your campfire on a Saturday night.

Samuel Nalangira Trio – World

A native of Uganda, East Africa; Samuel Nalangira is a folk/world musician, dancer and choreographer who has been performing and teaching since the age of 15. He is a  multi-instrumentalist and a master at many traditional instruments including the Adungu from Northern Uganda, Akogo from Eastern Uganda, Endingidi, percussion  and Ngoni.
Carolyn Koebel has been exploring rhythm and vibration for the past thirty years. Her early studies are rooted in the Western traditions, while the past 20 years have found her slowly traversing the globe in search of indigenous folk roots and traditional rhythmic materials from Latin & South America, West Africa and the Middle East, and all points in-between.

FINDING NEMO AND FRIENDS
Pick up a list from the library and then go explore downtown Otsego from July 1 – 31 to find characters from the Disney movies Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. Once you find all of the ocean friends, return your completed sheet to the library for a special prize!

Oceans of Possibilities – Teen/Tween Summer Reading Program

Get ready to make waves this summer with the Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program. Read FOUR books and complete TEN challenges to enter the FINtastic Grand Prize drawings. Finishers are also eligible for the Grand Prize Picks.

The ocean is calling you to sign up at the library during the week of June 13 – 18! Sign-ups will continue through July 9.

Once you’ve reached your reading goal you can bring in your finisher slips to pick up a Finisher Prize Bag and pick out a free book. Then you can enter for a chance to win one of our FINtastic Grand PrizeS and the Fintastic grand prize picks!
