Homebound Delivery FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What items can be requested?

Patrons can request a delivery of up to ten items, including:

  • Regular print books
  • Large print books
  • Audiobooks on CD, CD players
  • Music CDs, DVDs
  • Puzzles

What items cannot be requested?

Due to the limited checkout periods or limited size of collections: Wifi Hotspots, Rising Reader/STEAM kits, Magazines and Newspapers, specialty AV items like Projectors

Are there any fines or fees?

The Otsego District Public Library’s homebound delivery service is free and sponsored by a Molina Healthcare grant. Overdue fines will not be charged on homebound materials, but patrons are responsible for damaged or lost items.

Who qualifies for this service?

Any Otsego District Public Library resident can qualify for the homebound delivery program if they are unable to leave their home on their own due to the following: age, disability, mobility problems. This service is primarily intended for Senior Citizen residents.

A library card is required for the homebound delivery program and can be made for the patron during the application process.

How are delivery items picked?

During the application process, the homebound coordinator will review the patron’s preference and create deliveries based on the patron’s reader profile. Patrons can also request different types of items or titles after the initial interview. The library suggests asking for several more items than the patron thinks they will read so if they don’t like some of them they can skip them and read other titles.

How does the service work?

  • Patron calls the library or applies online.
  • Coordinator sets patron up in Homebound system and has an initial phone interview about preferences, and sets up initial delivery.
  • Patron can call or email after initial delivery and leave a message with coordinator with requests or changes to delivery.
  • Coordinator will make deliveries on the third Friday of the month.
  • Coordinator will come to location with a second staff member for deliveries.
  • Coordinator and staff member will not enter houses or rooms and will make delivery at door/doorsteps.
  • All animals must be secured or delivery will not be made.
